When Tyler Hull thinks back to his first experience with WaterStone Bank, he laughs: “My mother took me into the bank to open my first account when I was about in eighth grade,” he says. “I was mostly interested in getting the prizes.”

Today, Tyler is the owner of West Allis-based Modern Exterior, a growing exterior remodeling company specializing in roofing, siding, and windows. From its start in 2019 as a one-person operation, the company now has 45 employees and continues to expand, with plans to add even more team members this year.

As the business has grown, so has Tyler’s relationship with WaterStone Bank. “Everything is at WaterStone,” he said, including business checking, money market accounts, and loans. Tyler also works with Mike Danielson, Vice President/Business Banking, on a business line of credit that has helped him continue to take on larger projects.

The personal service that he receives from staff like Community President Laura Merchle is another part of why Tyler values banking with us. “Laura is flexible, and she genuinely cares about us,” he said. “One time I was out of the country and needed to send a wire transfer. Laura got on the line to help with the signing process. I don’t think another bank would have taken the time to do that.”

He recalls another example that left a lasting impression. “I used to walk into the Greenfield branch, and they knew my account by heart,” Tyler said. “That kind of relationship means a lot.”

This spring’s severe storms have kept Tyler and his team especially busy with roofing projects, including one building where the roof was torn off. While many homeowners may hesitate to begin repairs because of the cost, Tyler stresses the importance of acting quickly after storm damage to keep the problem from getting bigger, and ultimately more expensive.

For homeowners facing urgent repairs, financing options such as a HELOC may help make necessary work more manageable, often with lower interest rates than third-party financing. “If you need to take quick action in an emergency situation, and you don’t have the money, it’s the best way to go,” Tyler says.
